MOCK SCRAPES 101

1

PICK THE RIGHT LOCATION

Bucks tend to build their "communication posts" or natural scrapes at pinch points between cover, near food plots, or trails leading toward bedding areas. Choose a spot where you know deer already travel.

2

FIND OR BUILD A LICKING BRANCH

Look for a branch roughly 4-5 feet off the ground that a buck can reach without ducking or stretching; that's where he'll rub his face, depositing scent from his preorbital glands. Don't have a great natural option? That's where our ropes come in handy. Don't have a tree at all? Or need something to mount to a post? Choose our Buck Angler so you don't have to wait on nature to cooperate.

3

CLEAR THE GROUND AND APPLY SCENT

Grab a rake or use your boot to clear the leaf litter and other debris from under your licking branch, making a circle that's roughly a few steps wide. Clear this area until the dirt is exposed, making it visible to bucks. For more potent attraction, add a scent like our Grave Digger soil or other liquid scents.

4

DON'T ABANDON YOUR SCRAPE

Don't let your hard work go to waste; check back (pro tip: use D/CODE scent elimination to reduce your human odor whenever you visit) to freshen up or boost your scrape to keep it part of a buck's rotation. This is where products like our Grave Digger scent drippers, Buck Tarsal Gland, and more come in handy. For even better monitoring, put a trail cam on your spot so you can keep an eye on the deer coming through.
